
Historic Memorandum of Understanding Signed for the First Time Between Fergusson College, Pune and the Directorate of Geology & Mining, Government of Maharashtra
4 August 2026: The Directorate of Geology & Mining, Government of Maharashtra, and the historic Fergusson College, Pune, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the objective of providing students with innovative academic, research, and industry-oriented opportunities.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Suyog Jagtap, Deputy Director, Directorate of Geology & Mining (Regional Office – Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nashik Division), Mr. Anand Patil, District Mining Officer, Collector Office, Pune, Dr. Shyam Mude, Principal of Fergusson College, along with faculty members and office bearers of the institution.
This landmark collaboration will provide students with opportunities in geology, mineral resource management, research, professional training, field visits, technical guidance, and various industry-oriented activities. It is expected to enhance students' skills by effectively integrating academic knowledge with practical experience.
Significantly, this is the first Memorandum of Understanding in the history of Directorate of Geology & Mining with an educational institution, making it a historic milestone in collaboration between the Government and the academic sector.
The dignitaries expressed confidence that such partnerships will strengthen research, innovation & the development of a highly skilled workforce, and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in the years ahead.
